Big Ben Clock

The symbol of England is Big Ben clock, it is also the most important thing, attractive landmark people think of. The Big Ben clock was built along with the huge church (houses of parliament) next to a river in London, the capital of England. It is the largest clock in the world, has four faces.

It took 13 years to build and was completed in1856.The name Big Ben refers to the thirteen ton bell hung.
During the second world war, the houses of parliament were destroyed but the tower survived and continued to keep time.

It looks better at night with lights on. A special light above the clock is to let people know that parliament is in session

But the clock tower isn't open to public tourists, only residents in United Kingdom can get in. Otherwise, the tower doesn't have an elevator, so that people have to climb up stairs 316 feet high.

The Big Ben clock has been significant in popular culture. On New Year's Eve day and Remembrance Day, people listen to its chimes to welcome a start of a new year. The chimes are also broadcast by radio and TV stations in UK.

England is an island country, surrounded by sea, it has unpredictable climate. Types of weather can change in a single day . It is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The western parts are the wettest, mildest, and windiest. The eastern parts are drier and cooler. But the Northern areas have lower temperature, wet, and cool.

In general, England has warm tropical and cold polar air, that lie over the country. It has 4 seasons in year.

The best time to visit England is in the summer and fall, when it is warmer and has less rain, specially May, June, September, and November.

Geography: Sometimes, England is understood to be the whole United Kingdom and the entire island has England (Britain), Wales, and Scotland.
England can be divided into two parts, the highland zone in the North- West with big hills, mountains, the lowland zone in the South- East with rolling plains.

The capital London is located in the South, because of the steadier- warmer weather, the lowland zone has more population, but the highland zone is known for many beautiful landscapes. England has a long coastline almost around the country. It has been the most important thing for England about development and history. England is the closest part of the United Kingdom island to Europe.

Lake District is one of a amazing lakes in England that I want to introduce it to you guys to visit. It is located in the middle between North and South zone. It became famous at the beginning of the 19th century by some poets.
The lake is kind of a perfect picture mixed of mountains and lakes, it is covered by the green color of trees and clean water, the paradise of people who have been there.
I picked this lake because it is the largest lake in United Kingdom, extends in many countries.

THE KING GEORGE III (1738-1820)

King George III was born in 1738, he was a grandson of the King George II. He was born two months premature and thought unlikely to survive. George King II disliked his father for some unknown reasons, so he took just little interest in his grandsons. George and his younger brother were educated by private tutors at home, so that he was shy.The day George III approached to his grandfather in a palace on his 18th birthday, he was offered a grand establishment at St Jame's Palace, but he refused. The following year, the King died suddenly. He became the next King. In 1761 he married and later had 15 children with 9 sons and 6 daughters. He was the first King who was welcome by all politicians of all parties.

He went mad after losing America. America was England's colonies. The fight broke out because of the tea taxes. The colonies declared free and independent states in July 1
776. To punish America, the King wanted to keep the rebels anxious and poor.

In 1789, the French monarchy worried about many British landowners. They declared war in 1893 on Great Britain. With this war, the King allowed his son Pitt to increase many taxes, raise the army. George didn't consider peace with France, it was an experiment in his view, the war resumed in 1803.

In late 1810, he became dangerously ill. He also suffered from his favorite and youngest daughter's death. He died in 1820, lived 81 years and reigned 59 years.

European countries are known for long term ancient history, specially the three greatest countries France-England-Italy, the most developed countries of the Europe. They are countries people would think of first when asked about Europe.

I chose England to do a presentation because it is one of the greatest countries in Europe. It is famous for Big Ben, the Queens and princes. England is the place where had historical events of human beings and industry happen.

I don't know much about the world, neither do I know about England. But it is attractive to me, I wish I could have visited it sometime in my past life. The information I am about to give is got the Internet and asked from other people to let you guys and me take some more interest in this great country.

I know two things about England. The large church with the famous Big Ben clock, one of the seven wonders in the world, is the first thing. The other one is royal people and life. I have wondered why people still have Queens and Princes in modern life. Their lives seem to have everything. But no one knows exactly the private life inside those huge royal palaces.
